From: TaMaRDiK #007Graphically there's no difference between 720p and 1080pOnly the fonts look different. In 720p they are sharper, 1080p tends to smooth things out, but yet it is a bit more blurry (poor upscaling?). Player names in 1080p are smaller than 720p.Remember the game is not native 1080p
Call Of Duty Gameplay 1080i Vs 1080p
While you may assume that a 4K resolution is better for gaming, this is not necessarily the case. While 4K can provide some fantastic detail and gameplay, 1080p still remains the firm favorite amongst the majority of gamers.
A 1080i screen resolution is very similar to a 1080p resolution, characterized by its ability to deliver 1,920 pixels horizontally by 1,080 vertically. It offers similar image quality as a 1080p resolution, demanding similar levels of performance from the GPU when driving framerates.
While easy to see when displayed in this manner, 1080i displays offer up a perfectly viewable experience when compared to 1080p alternatives. The human brain automatically reconstructs the image into a single picture, without even realizing two fields have been used.
If you are gaming with a PS4 or PS5 on a 1080i resolution TV that is under 27 inches, it is unlikely that your gameplay will be affected significantly. However, if you are looking for a more professional setup the 1080p resolution will come out of the top every time.
So, there you have it, our quick guide to the main differences between 1080p vs 1080i screen resolutions. If you are looking to purchase a monitor or TV for gaming, we would recommend 1080p. It is the optimal resolution for gaming and is the best option for any amateur or professional setup.
When looking at the 1080i, if you already own a monitor or TV with this resolution, it is sufficient for gaming. However, if your gameplay is particularly detailed or fast, you will likely experience some form of tearing.
Next, I tried plugging the Game Capture HD Pro between the Xbox 360 and the AV receiver; this resulted in no signal at all initially. After reading up on supported modes, it appears my Xbox set to the highest quality i.e. 1080p at 60 fps, while the Game Capture HD Pro only supports 1080i at 60 fps, or 1080p at 30fps. It turns out that my AV receiver had actually been downgrading the signal, which is why I was getting at least video before. Suffice to say, switching the Xbox to 1080i resolution did work and since then, I've had no problems.

Now I'm going to ditch indigestible jargon and provide you with some straightforward conclusions. Both 1080i and 1080p are 1920x1080 FHD resolution. "i" stands for interlaced scan and "p" stands for progressive scan. 1080i is typically used in HD channels on satellite and cable broadcast as well as HD cameras and camcorders, while 1080p is commonly used in Blu-ray discs, online streaming, computer monitors, game consoles and more.
In practice, most people can't spot much difference. When watching some 1080i videos, especially those with pictures of fast-moving people or objects, however, you can easily notice that there are a lot of strange horizontal lines or artifacts appearing all around. And 1080p videos, on the other hand, don't have such issues and look sharpener and smoother due to a higher scan rate, twice of the 1080i interlaced scan.

Your TV likely has either 1,920 by 1,080 pixels ("Full HD" 1080p) or 3,840 by 2,160 (Ultra HD or 4K). The signal you're sending it, either from cable/satellite, Blu-ray or some 4K source, is exactly the same number of pixels as your TV (yes, 1080i has the same number of pixels as 1080p).
What about 1080i compared to 720p, is there a big difference? Or is it just about the same as 1080p? Because most if all tv stations broadcast 1080i signals, so the only true 1080p picture would be blu ray, so my question is, would there be any big difference between 1080i and 720p? If so would the distance still be 10 feet?
The latest issue of independent PlayStation 2/3 magazine PSM has quite a few details regarding the PS3, including some already-suspected information as well as a couple surprises. Details include: Exhaustive connectivity between PSP and PS3: PSP will interface with the PS3 through wi-fi, serving as a remote and media manager for the console. PSP can also access PS3 over the internet, so the two can interface even when you're far away. No standard 1080i (or 1080p) support: Most games will apparently run at 720p; use of 1080i and 1080p is only at the developer's discretion. All games should have support for 480p and 480i for gamers without HDTVs. Wider storage medium support than expected: PS3 will support Memory Sticks, Compact Flash, SD cards, Blu-Ray (of course), and SACD. UMD support doesn't seem present, though. Software-only backwards compatibility: While PS3 will play PS1/PS2 games, it has no ports for peripherals for those systems, including their memory cards. All save data must be accessed through flash memory cards (that means no save data can be stored on the hard drive either, according to PSM). PSM speculates that Sony will release a USB multi-tap like device with legacy support for controllers and memory cards. Wireless access point: The PS3 will serve as a wireless access point (think they'll go out of their way to lock out access to Nintendo's DS online service?). The PSM article also mentions router functionality, though past reports have indicated that this will no longer be the case. Release date: Just a general "spring 2006". Some developers assume this applies to Japan, Europe, and North America. Wacky controller: Yeah, it's still a banana. An excerpt of note, regarding the PS3 demos at E3: None of the game footage was taken from software running on systems using the final PS3 graphics chip, the Reality Synthesizer (RSX). ... The most stunning demo, Killzone PS3, was from an actual game engine running on an alpha kit--at less than five frames per second. The footage was sped up to 60fps in post-production.
Casual gamers report that they see a difference returning to the 1440p after using the 1080p for a while. The visuals feel slow, but nothing that has a significant effect on their gameplay. Afterward, it takes them some time to get used to the less-dense resolution. 2ff7e9595c
